GAAC working hard to save the Federal Contract Tower Program:  173 airports that are part of the Federal Contract Tower (FCT) Program received notice last week that their towers will be closed on April 7. Those airports can appeal to FAA that closing their tower will have a national impact. Appeals are due tomorrow, March 13, and final decisions will be made on March 18.

Late yesterday, Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) announced that he will seek an amendment to the Senate's Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the federal government for the next six months. Senators James Inhofe (R-OK) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) have agreed to cosponsor the amendment, which would direct $50 million to the FAA's operations account to continue the FCT Program. The amendment would make an equivalent $50 million cut to other unobligated FAA funds - about $24 million from the facilities account and about $26 million from the research account. The FCT Program will still receive a 5% cut, like all other domestic programs - but not a 75% cut.

Contact your Senators today to support this amendment. This is a true bipartisan effort to keep the FAA’s most cost-efficient program running. The Senate released its draft last night and there is no language altering funding for FAA and the FCT Program. So, we await introduction of the CR and the Moran amendment, which will likely be later today.
